The Beauty of the Build

from Love Songs from a Lonely Deer by Lonely Deer

/

lyrics

There's no tyranny like a blueprint.
Nothing stifles like a plan.
With a few hundred dollars worth of wood,
baby, I'm your man.

I could build a tower in your backyard,
the space station in your hand.
The Coliseum in the oak tree,
Niagara Falls in the sand.

But you shot down every idea
with your drawings and schematics.
You said, "Just build the deck as we discussed
and don't do anything dramatic."

But I went ahead and built my dreams
out of two by fours and nails.
My hands were moving on their own,
I knew that they couldn't fail.

When it was done I fell back and I sighed
and I gazed upon my skill.
Then I took the nail gun to my heart
for the beauty of the build.
